About Lijun Chao
Lijun was born and raised in Heze City, Shandong Province in China. She studied painting and drawing from a young age and went on to receive her Bachelor’s degree from Heze University. There she studied traditional Chinese ink and watercolor painting. In 2013, she travelled to the US and earned her MFA in Painting and Drawing from SIU Carbondale. There, she expanded upon her understanding of traditional techniques with experimental practices and explorations in western art theory. Recently, her studio practice focuses on the balance of domestic and professional life for women and how those roles function under the pressures of traditional and contemporary expectations.
